I guess the end time is in another time zone - in which case the are probably in the last few hours.

It does look pretty closely tied again. If it comes out tied I might try to combine them - either bring some EE Doc Smith aspects to Victorian adventure or bringing the undersea world to E.E. Doc Smith like adventure.

"Action Yields Its Own Rewards" and "What Tangled Webs We Weave" do seem to suggest very very different courses of action - one calling for action first and the other calling for detailed planning - but I can think of interesting times when both might be invoked - they're dissimilar but not quite opposites.

"The Great Library" is my favourite aspect. Its could suggest a really cool location which plays a pivotal role in the setting, but could equally well be something people are aspiring to create, or a setting wide storage system. In fact its cool at the moment because it could be so many things, but at deffinately an idea generator.

Looks like Space Opera is edging out Undersea Adve...

Looks like Space Opera is edging out Undersea Adventure. Good thing you've read so much of Smith's work. You seem singularly well-prepared for that genre.

And the leading three aspects are kind of interesting. "The Great Library" is quite cool, because it suggests an awesome setting feature that could very easily be a central element of the plot.

"Action Yields Its Own Rewards" and "What Tangled Webs We Weave" almost seem to neutralize each other, each one encouraging a very broad but completely different range of choices. "Doc" Smith style Space Opera

Closely followed by:

Napoleonic-era fantasy
Victorian Undersea Adventure

Hard Sci-fi which was leading before the restart is trailing in 4th place (although 4th out of 30 is very respectable)

Trailing with 'NIL POINTS' we have:

Contemporary Crime drama
Dark Fantasy
Gangsters

Looks like I'll have to read up on my Lensman, Jules Verne and Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell. I guess noone wants to play at CSI or the Sopranos. Interesting that the genre which suggest a specific set of books seem to be doing better than the more generic genre.

On the Aspect side the front runners are:

Action yields its own rewards
Fight the power!
The Great Library
What tangled webs we weave

All of these are great aspects - and would work well with all three of the leading Genre. It looks like the Great Library has overtaken Labyrinthine Metropolis since Matt posted.

Only one of the 50 aspects has yet to recieve a vote, and ironically its:

There can be only one

I'm trying not to have too many ideas because both polls are actually very close and just a few votes could radically change things.

Voted! The current front runners (genre: Hard Sci-Fi, and aspects: Action Yields Its Own Rewards, Fight the Power!, Labyrinthine Metropolis, and What Tangled Webs We Weave) definitely suggest a pretty clear, workable, and awesome direction. I'd actually expected you to end up with some much harder-to-reconcile choices.

I've actually been trying to figure out what I'm going to be running next, myself (and here is a long blog post about that). I'll wait for it in the shops.

I'm guessing 'modern day gods' works as a genre name. Its great to wake up and see this blog has born fruit already. Theres some really interesting ideas in there.

I've put them on the game website where I'm throwing together my aspect list and genre list.

I never did get to play Torg although I do have a deck of Torg cards. One of my friends likes to use them for random fortune events in her games. The Torg "World Laws" seem an interesting idea. I'm guessing the aspects we choose when I get to the location phase may end up playing a similar role. I'm definately hoping those location aspects will set a very real feeling to each location - so a place with 'Truth Triumphant' is going to feel very different to the locale with the aspect 'Hells darkest corner'. Of course what those locations may be is a long way off and will hopefully follow from the genre once picked.

Thanks again for my first comments. You'd be surprised how excited seeing my first comments made me.

On a related note, the idea of campaign Aspects re...

On a related note, the idea of campaign Aspects reminds me of an older roleplaying concept from Torg, of all places. The different sub-settings in that game had properties called "World Laws", such as the Law of Morality--which mandated that everyone entering a certain realm immediately be classified as "good" or "evil", and act accordingly--and the Law of Vengeance--which grants a fate-point-like reward to characters who avenge wrongs done to themselves.

The idea, of course, was to give each sub-setting its own tone of gameplay. I don't think it was very thoroughly implemented, but it's an extremely cool idea.

This sounds like huge fun.
